Today at 12:18pm, the Granite County Sheriff Department informed the school of an incident that was going to occur in the community that may interfere with our students and staff being outside of our buildings and open campus for lunch.
Because of this information, we went into our “Secure” protocol, keeping everyone inside of our buildings but continuing with normal classroom activities.
At 12:33pm the "Secure" protocol was lifted after communication from the Granite County Sheriff Department that the situation was secure and safe. At that same time, the decision was made to continue to close campus for lunch because of the obvious presence of law enforcement activity nearby, and to alleviate any unnecessary traffic that may have made it more difficult for law enforcement.
The District wants to assure everyone that at no time during this incident were students or staff in harm's way, it was a precautionary safety measure that was implemented.
We want to thank the Granite County Sheriff Department for their clear communication and their work to provide services to our community to keep us all safe.
Respectfully,
Dean Phillips
Superintendent
Drummond Public Schools

Before the break students in grades 4th-6th were invited to attend the Missoula Symphony for a special showing of their "How to Train Your Dragon" concert. on Friday, January 30th. Permission slips were sent home, but space is limited to 20 students. If you have a child in these grades, this would be a great opportunity for them to see professional musicians and experience live music.

The Drummond School District wants you to be aware of a great opportunity to support our schools and save money on your tax bill at the same time.

This website is a project of the Center for Health and Safety Culture at Montana State University to promote the healthy mental, emotional, and behavioral development of children by actively growing their social and emotional skills, such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
On the website, parents and those in a parenting role learn about strategies to thoughtfully address challenges with their children while at the same time growing social and emotional skills, increasing well-being, and reducing risky behaviors.
The website includes tools that are organized developmentally by the age of the child. At the core of each of the tools is the 5-step intentional parenting process that is grounded in learning theory, previous work on intentional communication, and informed by leading scholars knowledgeable about social and emotional skills.
Parents and those in a parenting role can select an age-specific tool to address their parenting challenge. By reading or listening to an audio version of the tool, parents learn about and utilize the process to address their parenting challenge. With the use of the 5-step parenting process, parents become more comfortable and confident applying the process to other issues. With repeated engagement in the 5-step parenting process, social and emotional skills are improved in both parents and children. Over time, improved social and emotional skills in children increase well-being and reduce risky behaviors (such as underage drinking).
