I almost forgot to post the Teacher Tunes Trivia! Better late than never, I guess..
Teacher/Staff #1: The song "I Feel the Earth Move" was the #1 song on the day they were born.
Teacher/Staff #2: "16 Tons" was a song that this person always remembers listening to with their dad anytime they were in the truck.
Can you figure out who's who?

March Music Madness continues today with match-up #5. Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" is taking on Randy Newman and "You Got a Friend in Me". Cast your votes in the comments!
Stay tuned for Teacher Tunes Trivia this afternoon. We've got two more teachers for you to guess today.

Sorry for the late notice, but there will be no drum club this morning.

The weight room will not be open to the public Monday-Thursday from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM for the weeks of Monday, March 10 - Thursday, March 20, so that it is available track athletes. Thank you for your cooperation.

The advanced art class is doing some printmaking! Each student learned about linoleum cuts as a form of printing. After carving the surface, students then used block printing ink and rollers to print their designs. The hardest thing to remember when printmaking is that everything will print in reverse!

We love our Teacher's Aide, Anna Kate! She has the 6th grade room ready for St. Patrick's Day!

Our sixth grade class has earned their second Popcorn Party for random acts of kindness and for turning in their assignments on time! Way to go 6th Graders!!

Happy Monday everyone! Week one of Music in our Schools Month closed out with another no contest battle between "I Will Survive" and "We're All in this Together" with Miss Gloria taking the easy victory. Today's match-up is between Diana Ross with "I'm Coming Out" and "The Middle" by Zedd and Maren Morris. Links to each song will be in the comments in case you are unfamiliar with one or both.
There will be no teacher trivia today as Mrs. Anderson is absent, but will pick back up tomorrow. Friday's teachers were Mrs. Holly Graybeal with "Bad Day" and Mrs. Anne Ostler with "You Say".

Yesterday's battle of the band was not much of a battle at all! Gloria Gaynor stole the show, winning 71-20. Monday's battle will be announced Monday morning. As for Teacher Tunes Trivia, Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" came out in 2005 which threw some people off, but it hit the #1 spot on the Billboard Charts on the day Mrs. Graybeal graduated. "You Say" by Lauren Daigle is definitely a favorite of Mrs. Anderson's which was the most guessed teacher on that song, however, it was not the song she chose this time. She is in good company though with the wonderful music taste of Mrs. Anne Ostler. Student winners will be announced Monday morning as well. Thanks to all of you that have been following and playing along with our music shenanigans!

📚🎵 BRAIN SCIENCE: WHY MUSIC MAKES BETTER READERS 🎵📚
Did you know that learning to read and playing music share neurological highways in the brain?
New research reveals why musical kids often become stronger readers—they’re literally creating neural networks in the same areas of their brain that they often use for reading.
When children engage with music, they’re:
• Training their brains to distinguish between similar sounds (crucial for phonics!)
• Strengthening working memory (essential for comprehension!)
• Building rhythm perception (key for reading fluency!)
• Developing sustained attention (needed for longer texts!)
The science is clear: just 30 minutes of active music engagement 2-3 times weekly creates measurable changes in the reading brain. And the benefits are even stronger for kids with reading challenges, especially dyslexia.
So when your child is drumming, singing, or playing an instrument, they’re not just making music—they’re building their reading brain!

More Guitar Hero battles

4th through 12th graders got to bring out their inner rock stars with some Guitar Hero battles on Friday. Even the staff got in on the fun!!

I almost forgot today's Teacher Tunes Trivia! The first staff member chose Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" because it was the song that was #1 when they graduated. The second staff member chose Lauren Daigle's "You Say" because it is just one of their favorites and they like the message behind it.
Who do you think it is??

This week we celebrated "Read Across America with Dr. Seuss." Our kindergarten class did a great job for dress up days!!

We hope to see everyone next Tuesday, March 11th for Parent/Teacher Conferences. They will take place from 3:35-6:35pm.

Visit the art room during Parent-Teacher Conferences next week, 3:30 - 6:30 pm.
Students who have learned to throw on the wheel can demonstrate their skills to a parent/guardian for extra credit. See the magic of ceramics!
Artwork pick-up will be available for 7th-12th grade students. Please come and ensure your student's artwork makes it home!

Yesterday's match-up was a close one, but John Lennon's "Imagine" pulled out the win over Michael Jackson's "We are the World" Today's match up is Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" VS High School Musical "We're All in this Together"
In Teacher Tunes Trivia, "Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies was the number one song on Ms. Popken's birthday and Aloe Blac's "The Man" is Mr. Cerkovnik's pump me up song. Check in this afternoon for today's two staff members!

Who do you think it is?

Day two of our March Music Madness: Battle of the Bands is underway. Sister Sledge took down Bob Marley yesterday to advance to round two. On today's docket we have Michael Jackson's "We are the World" VS John Lennon's "Imagine". Please comment your votes and feel free to share the post to get more people involved. Just make sure you comment on the original post otherwise I may not see it.
Yesterday we also started a Teacher Tunes Trivia and we had to guess which teacher/staff member had Alan Jackson's "Livin' On Love" played at their wedding and whose favorite song is Ian Munsick's "Mountain Time". This morning we learned that it was Mrs. Larson's wedding and Ms. Hain's favorite. Be looking for a post this afternoon for today's trivia contestants!
#WeAreDrummond #MusicMatters

Good morning, Drummond Families!
Today we are starting our March Madness - Music Edition. Attached you will find the bracket for all the songs competing. This year's theme for Music in our School's Month is "United Through Music" so *most* of the songs have that in common in some way. Our staff and students will be placing their votes this morning, but I would like to get as many votes as possible which is where you come in!
In the comments, please write which song you would like to move on to the next round. If you are not familiar with the song, you can find them on YouTube. I will take votes until 8pm each evening and will announce the winner along with the next day's match up each morning. You may only vote ONCE per day.
Today's match up: "One Love" - Bob Marley VS "We Are Family" - Sister Sledge
